Hopi Buffalo Girl. This is not a Katsina but a social dancer. The dance is common to most of the pueblos. The actual dance consists of two girls and two men who enact a ritualized interpretation of the myth of the Buffalo. The two girls meet two handsome young men who invite them to their home. It turns out to be a long way and they travel on the rainbow. The men change into buffalo, but as is the usual case, they can take their animal appearance off as we remove a coat.****The Artist: Alton Pashano - Lives and carves on First Mesa, AZ
