Description
Hopi Palakwai (Red-tailed Hawk Katsina) Pink case mask with beak. At Second Mesa a nest is used on top of the head; at Third Mesa an inverted V over the beak. Ears of flicker feathers. Fur or feather ruff. Kilt, sash, fox skin, green moccasins (Second Mesa) or red (Third Mesa). Wings on arms. Appears in initiation years in the Bean dance at Mishongnovi where he is a Mong (official) Katisna. *** Circa 1950's.
